50 plants to squeeze in!

Greenhouse Winterized!

We’re looking forward to winter. We have four trays of lettuce and broccoli to place in the greenhouse for the cold months. Ms. Lula will eventually store her plants in the greenhouse. In January and February, there will be a lot of plants, such as, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and flowers stored, too. We would like to thank the Little Rock Parks, USDA-NIFA and the Second Presbyterian Church for donations to make our greenhouse possible.

First Day of School

On the first day of school students from Ms. Nelson’s music appreciation class went to the garden to pick flowers. The floweres will help spruce up the cafeteria while the students are eating lunch.

Come and join us for another Volunteer Day at Felder Farm! All ability levels are welcome to learn, participate and enjoy being outside in the garden. Drop in any time between 9-3pm. Please bring your own water and salad spinners if you have one.

We’ll be planting lots of stuff, building compost bins, harvesting salad mixes, and possibly building another chicken coop. Hope to see you out at Felder!

Come and join us for the second volunteer day at Felder Farm! Stop by when you can, stay as long as you want. Snacks will be provided, but we recommend bringing your own water.

Volunteer Day, March 13th, 2010

Well, the first volunteer day of 2010 has come and gone, and overall it was a great success! We were able to get the greenhouse cover on despite a chilly, windy day that was determined to prevent it from happening. Other jobs included working on the new chicken coop, planting some raised beds, and putting the flooring down inside the greenhouse.

When I wasn’t making pizzas from our propane oven, I spent some time working on breaking down cardboard and covering it with mulch for walkways in the garden. After Nancy cleared the path (aka the “hard work”) my job was to make sure the cardboard fit, that it didn’t blow away (or hit me in the head) and that I didn’t flip the wheelbarrow over while stumbling across the field with my mulch.

I’m looking forward to the gratifying part of putting plants into the ground, but I know that all this prep work will really make a difference. Check out more pictures from this day at the Felder Farm Facebook page….and maybe even become a fan!
